Life with My 3 Boybarians posted this great Holiday Bokeh tutorial here. I've been seeing lots of people try it out and I've been dying to attempt it myself.
This was my first attempt.
Of course it took some white balancing and brightening in photoshop to get the whites to pop. Actually the biggest problem I had was the dark green wire in between the white lights. If I had a strand of white lights with white wire instead of dark green this would've been MUCH easier! I did photoshop out some of the dark spots where the wire showed. I had the coffee mug sitting on some fake snow and I like how the strand of silver garland goes in and out of the snow, and in and out of focus. I ended up setting this up on my kitchen floor because thats where I had the best light.
This is when I realized my whipped cream was melting and I took the shot again with a fresh topping of whipped cream!
I also tried it with my little Santa snow globe.
I couldn't get this one quite as white because on the first picture, I took out a lot of the red to get the wall white, but I couldn't on this one or else all the color from santa would be gone! Also, you can see the wires a bit more on this. But still I think it worked out ok.
