Good to Wow - Edits

 Thursday, June 2, 2011

Jill and Ashley have a challenge on their blogs every week.  Monday, we link up straight out of camera shots completely untouched with Jill and on thursday we follow Ashley's editing tutorials to link up our edits.  You can see my SOOC's here.

Ashley's editing tip this week was creating custom vignettes.  It was a great tip that I will definitely be using, but it wasn't the best method for these particular photos because the sky in these pictures are SO white that lowering the curve layer on them didn't help--they stayed white.  So instead I used two different vignette techniques that I've used in the past.  One, is just to run Pioneer Woman's Quick Edge Burn action.  I generally have to lower the opacity and the fill quite a bit on this.  Second, I duplicated my layer, ran a gaussian blur at around 19% and then set my blending layer to multiply.  I used my paint brush on white to erase the effect in the center, leaving it slightly darker on the edges.  I also ran Coffee Shop's Baby Powder action to smooth her skin a bit and sharpen her eyes.  Here are my edits!

What lovely lighting! These are just beautiful! Your SOOC's are really great!! I really like the natural haze you were able to get!! I'm a huge fan of vignetting as well however, I do it in LR so I'm not familiar with how to do it in PS! Well done!
