My lovely friend Francesca asked me if I could take some pictures of her while she was working out. Personally, this is about the last time I'd ever want a camera pointed at me, but she just happens to look AMAZING when she works out! I actually took these quite a while ago and never really got around to editing them. The light in the room was so bad and made everything look yellow and it made everything a little challenging to edit. But I finally got around to it. This is quite different then any shoot I've done before so I'll give a few quick tips.
What I Learned
-I should've manually white balanced. I think this would've helped offset the horrible fluorescent lights.
-We were lucky enough to be in a private gym where we could move equipment around. I did my best to have her always facing the windows that had the most light coming through. If we weren't able to move equipment, I don't know what I would've done!
-Fitness equipment can act as a prop! I wish I had done more of that. I did a couple shots with weights but I think I could've incorporated equipment even more.
-I also liked the idea of getting shots of her doing interesting movements and exercises but it was difficult to do that and still get decent light and focus.
-I did think to ask her to bring different outfits and had her change part way through. I think this helped changed things up a bit.
-I think these all may have been better if she had been working out outside under natural light with prettier backgrounds, but I had to work with what I had! I tried to clone out distracting wires and outlets on the wall here and there.

I agree- the gym is the last place I'd want my pictures taken but she looks amazing.
She does look great when she works out! Well done. I like the ones with the weights. lol! Yeah, I don't want my pictures taken while I'm working out, that's for sure.
I look just like that when I'm working out - NOT. She is beautiful. You (and she) did a great job. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!!! These are all fantastic!!!!!
Awesome job taking the photos! They look great! :)
Awesome shots! Wish I looked like that!
I don't look like that when I workout....*sigh*
She's gorgeous! These look like they belong in Shape magazine! Great job.
Great shots! Francesca makes me wanna go on a much needed diet!!
Gorgeous shots, wouldn't be my favourite place to have a portrait, but she looks great.
Stink, she is cute working out! :)
I agree, more props would have been nice, seeing she was working out, right?? lol! Or was she just posing and pretending? (ahem... looking around...)
I think overall you did great. A few shots you cut her off at joints (her elbows). And we can't all workout outside, you know! :)
I always love reading what you learned :O) Great call on getting her to bring an extra set of clothes!! I agree, that doing a CWB would have cut down on your editing. Live and learn right?? She does look beautiful!! Great job!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Really nice shots! I'd never want my photo taken while working out, but she is beautiful and you have some great shots of her.
My daughters take dance classes in a florescent lighted room. I learned right away to atleast set my white balance to florescent. It helps so much! Amazing how wacky florescent lighting can be. I like the photo of her sitting in the gray top. The triangles made by her legs add so much interest. Very nice!
Great series of photos. These are really well done.
I'm with you, I look hot and sweaty when I work out, and I definitely don't wear makeup!
I think the pictures turned out nice.
