Tarvin Family Session Preview

 Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I was so excited to be asked to take pictures of this family for their Christmas cards. This baby's mama, Lexe, and I went to high school together and we see each other so rarely now, its always a treat.
But, man, was this a tough session! Her adorable baby James is 5 months old and its a pretty tough age to shoot.  It was quite a challenge getting the baby to look at the camera, or to even sit still enough to come out in focus!
I'm still sorting pics, but wanted to give a little preview and this adorable family!

Tarvin Family Shoot - Preview

Baby James

It did help to wave a toy near the camera to get his attention! At least, sometimes it helped! Any other tips on shooting babies?

Really cute shot of that baby!!

It must be hard to attract his attention long enough to snap good shot too. Would it help if you had an off-sider, even an older child, to get his attention while you concentrate on the camera alone?

Thanks for visiting my blog! Love these, i think toddlers are hard to shoot :/ these look great though!

Love these! What a sweet baby. Love that little bit of drool and those gorgeous eyes! Love the DOF on the picture of the baby and the combination of the red and green.

You did great! These are beautiful! I'm awful at shooting little ones. I have to concentrate on what I'm doing photography wise which leaves nothing left for getting their attention or making them laugh. When I shoot families that have babies I try to get one of my boys to stand behind me and act silly.

Those came out GREAT! I think it's awesome that you get together with your friends from HS. I have a handful in SoCal that I see when I go home- I love it when that happens.

I think you did pretty well, what a cutie pie!

I'm just starting to take pictures of other people (besides my own kids!) and there are definitely challenges with all ages. :)

These are so cute! :) I guess I have found it helpful o have a remote so that you don't need to have your face stuck behind the camera... Also. There are little toys/masks you can put around your lens! How cute!

Very sweet! Those peppermint lights look fun and what beautiful eyes!

That baby is so cute! Gorgeous family.

Totally random question, way back in April/May you asked Ashley Sisk about how to line the buttons of various sizes on your post, did you get an answer and if so could you let me know how to do it, Thank you very much in advance.

I agree, that is a tough age to shoot! But they turned out great! Reuniting with highschool friends is always fun!

Well done on managing a tough shoot - really like your first one. I've got no tips because the thought of doing a family photo session sends me into an immediate panic.

Patience is the only other tip I can give you. If you wait them out long enough you will usually end up with a great shot or two! I love the second photo of your little man...that look with all the lights around him and the drool coming out of his mouth is too cute!!! Hope to see you again at Happily Mother After soon!

Lauren December 6, 2011 at 1:09 PM

whoops, sorry..that was a typo. I meant "the little man" not "your little man." :)

Breena December 8, 2011 at 7:27 PM

Just wanted you to know that your photo will be featured at my "Look Whoooo's Snapping" photo linky party tomorrow! I also wanted to invite you to link up again this week!

Treats in a container that makes noise so you can shake it. Mom or Dad doing silly things behind you (not saying CHEESE SMILE!).
