Tuesday Tips & Pics - Maternity Shoot Preview
Monday, April 16, 2012
I've really been slacking on posting lately! Its been a really busy couple of days.
I don't have a lot of tips to share today but I shot my first wedding this weekend! I swore I would never shoot a wedding (just seemed like too much work and stress to be fun) but a good friend needed help for her sister's wedding and they couldn't afford to hire a regular wedding photographer so I agreed, and thankfully my friend Meghan (of Meghan Bob Photography) was shooting the wedding with me! It was such a great help having Meghan with me, I would NOT have been able to do this by myself. We were really in sync and it worked out great covering events from different angles or holding reflectors for each other. So I guess my tip would be, if you're going to shoot a wedding, shoot with a friend!
However, the wedding was really challenging to shoot, and I'm not sure its something I would ever want to do regularly. I found it soo hard to be creative and get interesting shots. You're running around so much just trying to capture everything around you that it's near impossible to really be creative, at least for me. But doing portrait sessions is perfect for me. It's just you and one or two others and you have plenty of time to be creative! And it just so happened I had to do a maternity shoot the day after this wedding!
I did this maternity session for my old college roommate, Shannon, who was 37 weeks pregnant yesterday, when I did this shoot! We shot at this awesome park near her house called Citrus Ranch Park, that was covered with acres of Lemon groves! I had so much fun shooting there!
It's going to take me some time to edit all these, since I need to edit all the wedding pictures too, but here's a quick preview!

Love the perspective of your first shot!
Nice job on these photos! I've never participated in tips n pics before. I think I might just do that tomorrow. I don't have any tips ready, but I have a photo.
I shot my second wedding this weekend! (just linked up a few pics) It's definitely stressful & a lot of work! I plan on limiting myself to only a few each year! I am much more of a portrait session type girl too!! Thanks for hosting!
Oh wow! Congrats on your upcoming wedding shoot! I'm sure you'll do great!
I love these maternity shots in a lemon grove! Love the yellow. Your work is always so beautiful.
I'm linking up without a tip...hope that is ok. I need to be more proactive about thinking that through.
Love these shots, and can't wait to see some from the wedding!
I really love the lemon shot!
Jaymi, I totally agree with you about photographing a wedding! You were brave. I would love to see some of the photos. Your maternity shots are beautiful!
Love these. So fun and cute.
These are beautiful!!! You certainly are very busy. The thought of photographing a wedding scares me to death. I might want to do it once as a backup to the backup- just to say I did it. I completely admire your gusto for taking it on.
ooh how fun with the lemons! Yeah, I know what you mean about being one on one versus running around all day. That's how I feel with kids too, it's easier when it's just me and the baby (without the parents distracting the baby).
Such a great shoot! Congrats on doing a wedding! They completely scare me from a photography standpoint. I bet it was a great experience though!
A wedding, that makes me sweat just thinking about it and I don't photograph professionally! I love your perspective in the first shot and the focus in the second. What a fun place to shoot, in a lemon grove!
These are just beautiful!
The lemon/belly contrast is cool, Jaymi :) and congrats on shooting your first wedding!
Congrats on shooting the wedding! That's a bit step and I'm sure the pictures turned out lovely. :) These are great! How awesome that there was a lemon orchard nearby. Lucky! :)
Congrats on shooting a wedding! I can only imagine how difficult that is. I bet you learned a ton though.
Your maternity shoot looks beautiful. I love the lemons. What a beautiful place. Can't wait to see more ;)
I love the bright greens and yellows, beautiful shots Jaymi! Thank you for sharing and for linking up at Tones on Tuesday.
Love how you composed both of these.
I really love these sweet photos.
You are super busy! I feel the same weddings, if I were t over become a pro I would never ever shoot a wedding! I can't even imagine the stress! But I'm sure you did a great job and the bride will be happy! Also, I love the lemon shot! So cool!
